Christian Education
Christian Education at St. Matthew’s begins in our nursery. Children from birth to 4 years old learn of the love of Jesus from the examples of their caregivers. Our nursery is open from 9:15 through the first part of the 10:30 Service. Care can also be provided during the 8:30 Service if requested.
Three and four year olds also have a class of their own during the first part of our 10:30 Service. Here they learn the Lord’s Prayer and a variety of Bible Stories. These lessons are presented in a variety of fun ways by loving and compassionate teachers.
Adult Education and our Parenting Group both meet at 9:15. At this time the children are busy attending Children’s Church. They then have a supervised ‘free time’ to play Bible Games on the computers, color Bible pictures, play Bible Games, read, or just kick back with our toys and relax until the Church Service begins!
The main part of our children’s Christian education is our Sonday Sunday School classes. They are held during the first half of our 10:30 Sunday Service. We use the rotation method of teaching from kindergarten to grade 6. Our teachers utilize many different methods to teach the same lesson in a variety ways. This is to accommodate the many different learning styles of the students. They never know what to expect and always look forward to being surprised! We may be cooking (we made a fruit salad to teach the Fruits of the Spirit) or playing a game, craft time or watching a movie. We even had a Roman soldier – in his armor – visit to teach The Armor of God!
We also have a Jr. Hi and a High School class meeting at this time. Our High School class rises to the challenge of the 30 Hour Fast held world wide each February to raise money to fight world hunger.
The mission of St. Matthew’s is to follow Jesus Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit, equipping disciples to build up the Kingdom of God. As you can see, we take it seriously. Come join us!
