The mission of Kairos is to help grow and nurture strong Christian Communities within state and federal correctional institutions. Kairos Prison Ministry is an ecumenical Christian ministry. Kairos, Ohio District, operates as an affiliate of Kairos Prison Ministry, Inc. which governs with a national Board of Directors.
Ohio Kairos operates three major ministries:
1: Kairos (the oldest and main ministry) 2: Kairos Outside, and 3: Torch. The main Kairos ministry is operating in Lebanon Correctional Institution (LeCI), the Ohio Reformatory for Women (ORW), Marion Correctional Institution (MCI), Ross Correctional Institution (RCI), Trumbull Correctional Institution (TCI), Toledo Correctional Institution (ToCI), the Ohio State Penitentiary (OSP), and the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility at Lucasville (SOCF).
Kairos Reunions (of Kairos volunteers and residents who attended a Kairos weekend) also are held at Franklin County Prerelease and Northeast Ohio Prerelease.
The Kairos experience for residents starts with a 3-day short course in Christianity that is attended by 42 residents and provided by a team of 55 trained outside volunteers. The Kairos “graduates” attend small Prayer and Share Groups, semi-annual Kairos Retreats and monthly reunions with the Kairos volunteers.
Kairos Outside is a ministry for female loved ones (wife, mother, sibling) of incarcerated Christian men or women. Kairos Outside operates in Marion and is for loved ones in Marion Correctional. The experience starts with a 2-day Christian renewal weekend. The attendees continue their faith walk in their own churches and go to periodic reunions of Kairos Outside participants.
Torch is a ministry in Marion Correctional. It ministers to young residents; 18-24 years old. A 2-day Torch Weekend is followed up with continued mentoring of the weekend “graduates.”
